Toru Hasuta is a Tokyo-based bamboo artist whose practice encompasses tea ceremony utensils such as tea scoops (chashaku) and tea baskets (chakago), exploring bamboo’s potential as a natural and sustainable material deeply rooted in Japan’s cultural heritage.

Made from slightly darker smoked bamboo, this hand carved cashaku boasts gold decoration at the node and the base, made from genuine gold leaf that was adhered with lacquer, then coated several times.
